A great cast makes the show work
The noir-soaked, sun-speckled world of Hap & Leonard isn’t afraid to lean into expected tropes. Based on the series of novels by Joe R. Lansdale (most notably the first entry, Savage Season), the show has numerous elements inherent to the genre. Yet Hap & Leonard pivots just often enough to keep things interesting. Even if the overall tone of the series (dictated by writer Nick Damici & writer/director Jim Mickle, who previous adapted Lansdale’s Cold in July for the big screen) mostly commits to a known territory, Hap & Leonard has enough to offer to make it notable to even those worn out on noir revivalism" http://www.cutprintfilm.com/tv/hap-and-leonard/
