Surprised this is the First Comment on this Great Movie

The story is a depressing tale about the futility of war and the bad luck of a British unit whose 6-day cycle into to the trench happens to coincide with an expected German offensive. This is a nearly 100 year old story adapted from a stage play. It was unusual to my 21st century sensibilities to see a British Army organized so faithfully to class differences. Although it’s a bleak movie, it was incredibly well acted and you can’t help to feel the mounting anxiety for the attack. But you also feel a great sympathy for these soldiers who show incredible courage and camaraderie to hold a line purely for each other; knowing there is no strategic or historical significance for their sacrifice.
