I liked it but couldn't understand why they wanted the film so much

Can anyone help?

reply

The plot of the movie gave informations about a true corruption scandal.

In all honesty from what little they showed of the film I don't think anyone would have seriously cared about it. Oh wow, the auto industry is trying to prevent catalytic converters from hitting the market. One of those movie cases where a bunch of people die over something that isn't as shocking of a scandal as people think.

reply

It's not shocking 30 years later. But it would've cost the car companies money. It did cost them money. I wasn't born till a little later but I'm sure some companies (if not all) did fight it. Change is hard.

The film the everyone wanted was what Hitchcock would call a "MacGuffin". It's a thing that the plot revolves around but really doesn't matter. In North by Northwest it was the microfilm; in Raiders of the Lost Ark it was the Ark of the Covenant.

reply

I'm sorry, are you new? The auto industry was using government ties so they wouldn't be forced to redesign their engines.

It's idiots like you that think white collar crime doesn't cause any harm. You're wrong. These kinds of things cause MUCH more harm than most blue collar crimes.

It revealed that the motor industry was trying to stop catalytic converters being made mandatory on cars.

An opinion is not offensive just because you do not agree with it.

The movie within the movie was exposing government corruption. It was described as a cross between a porno and investigative journalism.
