This movie tried so hard to be smart by being stupid, but for me it crossed the line and became too stupid to be enjoyable.

That's fair. It was pretty stupid but I found it absurdly entertaining too. The two lead actors saved this movie. Especially some of the bits with RG's daughter, which as written are pretty hooky.

I didn't notice it trying to be smart. It seemed like it was trying to silly and funny and often succeeded.
