Why do you think so many people are fascinated with the 70's?

It seems that whenever there's a movie made, being set in the 70's, people tend to adore them. Some of my favorite films set during the 70's include Boogie Nights, The Ice Storm, the Zodiac movie, Dead Presidents, Anchorman, Remember the Titans, even the second season of Fargo. What are some of your favorite films set during the 70's?

Music, style, better movies, more originality back then, the outfits, the more carefree lifestyle, lack of everyone being on their iPhones every second, world politics etc.

Argo, Munich and Confessions of a Dangerous Mind are also really good ones.

i can remember the 70's

reply

Oh, how could I forget Argo and Munich! Those were great classic movies, and what made them even better was the fact they were based on true events.

It was an interesting era.

Why are people so sentimental about the 70's.

It was the last decade before corporations took over the world economy. It was also the last decade for FDR's New Deal.

The greatest film of the 70's!

I loved Dazed and Confused, as well as American Hustle!

It's an easy era to mock.

reply

So true, society was much more naive back then.

The greatest band of the 70's!

Isn't it done with a bit of love though?
I doubt it's pure mockination.

But I haven't seen the movie yet, to be fair!

I was there in the 70's, 15 in 1970 and 24 in 1979 and it was a wild time. Movies from 1970 to 1975 were just great. Anything went, none of the stupid PC nonsense that pollute movies today(also very few sequels and remakes). Music ranged from Led Zeppelin to the Bee Gees to Bowie to The Ramones. None the homogenized studio created crap of today. It was a great decade.

I was just slightly younger at that time. Movies and Music were about "creation" instead of maximizing cash input. Albums were important rather than selling/buying random songs. TV had more original shows with fewer commercials and nothing was played over and over multiple times each week. Muscle cars were the true originals. There were a much higher percentage of more healthy appearing non-obese people with no people sitting around pecking on phones and tablets.

I call *beep* on most of what you said. Movie and music industry has always been about the dollars first and art after that. Oh, and have you completely forgotten that vinyl singles existed? Many bands/singers were one hit wonders back then too. Every decade has its fare share of crap music, movies and TV shows, but we forget them and remember only the good ones.

Agreed 100%
The early 70s were an amazing time for music & film.
