In any case, the majority concurs with your last sentence. Your first line? Maybe a perfect example of don’t judge a book by its cover. True, this isn’t being hailed as a good movie by a whole lot of people. And sure, it has a fair amount of CGI. Nevertheless, Shane Black made it his goal to use practical effects for this new one as much as possible. He asserted that CGI was going to be used sparsely and only when necessary—hell, he even slammed the idea of making this a “typical cgi shit film”. (It’s funny cuz Black sounded similar to those angry old fogies on the internet when discussing modern movies and CGI.) But anyway, while that might’ve not turn out to be the case completely, unlike others I didn’t find the CGI terrible.

Now, if it WAS disgustingly CGI-filled...well, I’m fine with that as long as the CGI looked great (most of it did imo). And bear in mind the movie had some last minute reeshots. Criticize CGI all you want, but sometimes it can accomplish what practical effects can’t. When it’s done right, it works. And yea it does take some serious skill and effort to make good CGI (the “back in my day” crowd scoffs and laughs at this statement).
