The kid looked 13, the mom looked 25 at best? WTF?

Well the actors are 18 years apart, so I'd say no.

Yeah, they definitely looked more like sisters, maybe the director should've gone with that route and skipped all Lifetime flashbacks.

That would've taken the entire emotional impact of the movie away. It is ultimately about the mother and daughter's relationship, and how unhealthy and fractured it is. Whether you view the whole thing as allegorical or not, so much of their conflict stems from the mother choosing alcohol and men over her daughter. To lose that would be to take away the sense of loss that is the driving force of the psychological story of mother and daughter.

Those flashbacks were really unnecessary. They could've told another sub-story on that time frame like a multiple strangers coming to the rescue or some kinda alien conspiracy.

18 years difference in the real world, but you should know better that actors play any age role.

no she didn't look 25....she looked about 30. And my mom is only 15 yrs older than me. so yes it can happen! nothing weird.
