As someone said one of the other threads, this story has been done before... (and will be done again as a remake with Nicholson and Wiig) It's about a woman obsessed with her work who loves but also is embarrassed by her ambitionless, immature father who worries if she will ever get a life and find true happiness. The acting by the two leads is amazing, and I highly recommend it to anyone who likes art house films.
shareIt manages to hold your attention for its nearly 3 hour time span which is amazing. Personally, I think many of the scenes of the company meetings w/ the daughter could have been tightened up a bit, but perhaps the director was going for that effect - all of that corporate talk is meant to sound lifeless and uncomfortably long to some viewers. It helps emphasize the gulf between the daughter (figures & facts, cell phone calls, meetings, promotions) and father (spontaneous and playful - lives more "in the moment").
I'm not sure what to think of the remake with Wiig and Nicholson. On one hand, it might make people curious about the original and they end up seeing it too. On the other hand, it also feels rather....pointless? We have a great film that just came out that's available to watch. No need of a remake in my opinion. If it's about taking off subtitles and making more box office dollars, I don't think a drama like this is meant to be making big dollars anyways.
