When USA's slogan was "Characters Welcome", Burn Notice was one of the top shows. What, you're one of those Hulu or Netflix dudes?

You see what you miss by having the commercials edited out?

reply

That was hilarious.

I think it was too meta for people to admit it got a little chuckle even if they didn't know the show. It reminded me when tyler Durden looked at angel face (jared leto) and said something around the lines that they weren't rockstars.

reply

That was always interesting and it is funny to consider that Leto has since become a very popular rock star.

1. This isn't the quote. The second part is "There are no blue skies for you out there".

2. I enjoy the meta line, but I think he could have stopped at "This isn't Burn Notice" because the full quote seemed too on the nose.

Seriously? You need to review.

This isn't "Burn Notice."

00:10:57,391 --> 00:11:00,859
There are no blue skies
for you out there.

192
00:11:00,861 --> 00:11:02,394
Characters like you

193
00:11:02,396 --> 00:11:04,963
are not welcome here.

194
00:11:04,965 --> 00:11:07,932
As far as anyone's
concerned right now,

195
00:11:07,934 --> 00:11:10,702
you're an enemy combatant.

196
00:11:10,704 --> 00:11:13,805
You don't have any rights.

reply

That was awesome.

reply

Huh? I'm still right. Your quote from the title was never said.

Which was my only point.

reply

I was pleasantly shocked, but only momentarily. It made sense and fit in with Mr Robot's love of cultural refs (running a tie, it seems, with Jimmy McGill/Saul Goodman).

I took it as a double-edged comment, both a send-up of the very good spy show that often descended into silliness (how could it not, with Bruce Campbell on board?), but a great sum-up of the status of fsociety's members: they are not even NOC's; they have no chance of official redemption, like Michael Westen was seeking.

The villains, esp. Price and White Rose, share many of the same qualities as the ones Michael finally meets, like John C. McGinley and John Mahoney, who are captains of industry or higher-ups in the CIA and other Government agencies.

Burn Notice and Castle are my two "watch it to enjoy it" shows right before bedtime, so if I nod off during the show, no biggie. The Firefly references in Castle were amazing, some even several lines deep. There were a few valuable pieces of spycraft early on but then they just became stupid or unrealistic, I'm guessing, to avoid a lawsuit. The one about shooting at angle through the wall adjacent to a reinforced door to take out the guy behind the door makes sense. Pretty much all of my friends admitted it was a weak spot in their perimeter.

And anything with John C. McGinley is golden and sacred.

My Chimp DNA seems to have lost its password temporarily. Sluggr-2

reply

I definitely feel that way about Burn Notice! I could never get into Castle because of Nathan Fillian--remember him in Buffy the Vampire Slayer? His character was so vile and twisted that I developed a permanent dislike for him.

John C. McGinley as golden and sacred? I'm there. :D My favorite performance of his is as one of "the Bobs" in "Office Space". He's hilarious.
