Not to sound crude, but he simply liked Amanda better. From the start, he started treating her better than the other two victims, giving her first choice of food, clothes, even a new bed. His favoritism got even more intense after Amanda's baby was born. She was is favorite. I think he just got tired of Michelle, and just kept her around because he had to in order to keep his secret without killing her.

What you said basically. Also he was always more physically abusive towards Michelle and treated her like trash. I read in one of the books that he liked blondes so that's another reason why he favored Michelle more. He also never really meant to take Gina and regretted it the most because of her age/and she was best friends with his daughter.

He kidnapped her because he got the opportunity and at that time he probably thought he would never get the chance again (he had been watching rough porn and playing with a mannequin in the basement since about 1997, at least, so this was something he had been fantasizing about for a long time). It was only after getting Michelle that he grew the confidence to get a girl he actually wanted (Amanda).
