Very bad and plot less

Being completely honest here. I cannot see how this movie is so highly regarded. The acting is just okay. The scenes aren't at all scary. The most interesting scene is the opening "trial" and after that it devolves into incoherence with just a bunch of stuff happening and no real plot line to speak of. 90% on Rotten Tomatoes? How? I would struggle to give this movie a 6 out of 10.

5 to 6 is rating for good modern horror movies, this one is 4/10, a really disappointing movie

Ah, that's not good. I really enjoyed this. I feel like it takes a seat back from "modern" horror films, and falls upon "old stories, tales of old" type of vibes.

I like horror, but most importantly supernatural horror (which is pretty rare to find a decent one), and psychological horror.

What's a 'good' or above horror film you'd recommend?

The usual that you probably have already watched:
The Ring (2002)
The Conjuring (2013)
Sinister (2012)

In this thread I try to gather good horror with low ratings have a look: https://moviechat.org/general/General-Discussion/64f6301fb7c02343ec48791d/Modern-horror-~-5-to-610-that-passed-unnoticed

Nicely stated.

The Conjuring -- very personal to me, relates to me a lot.
The Ring -- more so, the first time I found the hots for 2.21 Naomi Watts, plus there's a compelling story
Sinister -- very well done, especially with the slow-mo capture, and story...

I'll take a gander at the link you provided soon. What I love about lower-budget films, in general, they (non-genre specific) allow me to try and think what the 'film wants to be' despite what it actually is... if that makes sense.

Not for everyone that's for sure. Hyped horror often leads to disappointment, in my experience.

I had no idea what this film was the first time and I thought it was great.
