Is it REALLY necessary?
We get it. They're trying to make it 'gritty' but it's becoming irritating.
It certainly gets irritating when characters you wouldn't expect to swear publicly do so. It'll be dogs and cats next.

Some point out that people in NY talk like that a lot, but judging from other responses, that may not apply everywhere in the U.S. Also, various occupations may have more "casual speech" I suppose. But having spent a lot of time in the military where you expect f bombs to fly, the most foul language in casual or even business conversation I have encountered was with Hollywood mid level producers and such. Literally, every other word was *beep* So, it may be a Hollywood thing and therefore really unprofessional to let your local language patterns seep into that of your characters. Everything has its place--violence, cursing, etc. if the story demands it...unless you are Tarantino, in which case it simply covers lack of skill and intelligence.

It is absolutely weird to hear people who cuss every other word. I rarely cuss and the people around me rarely cuss. F bombs are usually reserved for when someone is really angry where I am from. In fact the only people who I know swear as much as Hollywood created characters/professionals are younger kids who think it is cool.

shareI don't have a problem with TV swearing if it is well done. In The Sopranos, for instance, it sounded real, but in this show it sounds lame and forced, as if people think they are expected to swear a lot.
shareIt is usual to swear a lot in finance. Finance-people can almost make whole sentences just out of terminology and swear-words. The fact that sweared almost as much in the DA's office was kind of surprising.
shareYou need to get out more, people in my life swear constantly it is part of normal conversation, as it should be.
