General surgeon doing spinal surgery ? NO!

Hail Mary episode
Neurosurgery is incrediblely specialised. There is no way a general surgeon could operate on a spinal tumour (by the way, a surgery that can take many hours). I was a nurse on a neurosurgical ward, and the surgeons would be horrified if a general surgeon even ATTEMPTED to remove a spinal tumour. Can't believe Code Black got it so wrong

are you talking about Neil? I thought Neil was first trained in neurosurgery before he switched to ER.

But in any rate the show's biggest weakness is the surgery plot lines. So many operations done in the ER without anesthesia or any infection controls. Plus they've only had 2 surgeons the whole time; Cole Guthrie and then Will Campbell.

But Will came in to take over from Dr Hudson, after Hudson couldn't complete the surgery on his own. Even if Neil trained in neuro, he hadn't done it for years. Plus her recovery was super fast and the operation seemed to take 10 minutes!!

well that's why I said the surgery on this show is no good. They always call the same surgeon for whatever complex procedure. Heart surgery, brain surgery, trauma surgery. Same doctor.

The only show that ever got his right - at least in the early seasons - was Chicago Hope. The main characters were all surgeons with different specialties.
