Did it ignore GB2?

Just saw it and realized part way in that everything they talked about from the past was about the first movie. I noticed Ray had the Occult book store like he did in part 2 but that’s really the only thing I can remember. Did they purposely ignore part 2 or were there more references to it that I missed?

I don't think there was a lot that needed referencing from Ghostbusters 2... The only character that was missing from this one, but probably could have been referenced, was Dana Barrett's kid, but he wasn't Peter's kid, that we knew of... So it wasn't strictly necessary. Plus one of the two twin brothers who played him died, sadly by his own hand... Chances are if his brother had even been approached to reprise the role, it may have been too hard for him to consider emotionally.

Oh yeah I forgot about Oscar. No mention of his name either. Was a semi important character as Vigo planned to use him to live again. But then again the whole Vigo thing never got mentioned. Sad to hear about the twin.

There very likely will be another Ghostbuster movie somewhere in the future, so maybe it will involve more what happened in Ghostbusters 2. Maybe Vigo will return as we had Gozer finally getting killed off now.

Actually the director confirms Ghostbusters 2 is in continuity with it and he put in slight nods to it. For instance, the Toaster from Ghostbusters 2 appears in Egon's home. There are other things like that in it.

Awesome that they put the toaster in! Curious what else they had in there, even if as subtle as the toaster. I kinda wondered why they never mentioned the Vigo event when they kept bringing up all the famous supernatural events.

Ray still run’s Ray’s Occult Books, for Dana’s brief appearance there was no mention of Oscar.

Turns out that GB2 -- like Mario 2 -- was all just a dream.

reply

That isn't true at all.

reply

...I'm aware.

reply

Are you?

reply

Personally, though I like Ghostbusters Afterlife, I prefer Ghostbusters 2 and the 2009 Video Game as sequels.

reply

Mario 2 is better than 3, there I've said it.
