$4 million more expensive per episode than Game of Thrones? Insulting!

There is absolutely no way to justify $120 million for 12 episodes when you look at the story and actors which are all mediocre.

Just compare it to Game of Thrones: $6 million on average per episode.

This is an insult for all Netflix subscribers, their money is wasted.

The only excuse can be that the production went horribly wrong. I have read there were struggles, but this is ridiculous.

Imagine how many other great series could have been produced with this budget.

get off your butt and start producing then if you are so upset. go build your career and start making and pitch your own ideas.

reply

Oh sweetheart, did I hurt your feelings? Are you somehow co-responsible for this piece of self-indulgence? If so, please find another 'career', but not in my industry. You can always pick up waiting tables again.

reply

but not in my industry.

And what is that? Full time IMDB message board posting? Hahahahahahahahahahahhahahahaha you c@cksuckers are hilarious!

This will be the only comment or reply you'll get. Like I give a sh!t about YOUR interwebz opinion.

Game of Thrones is at $10 million an episode. Try posting correct info.

What was the budget for Stranger Things? Anyone know?

reply

Haven't seen anything with an actual number, but it was far, far less, as there are a number of articles on the Internet detailing the budget constraints. And the final product, in my humble opinion, was much more satisfying than The Get Down. A perfect slice of 80s nostalgia!

reply

It's funny you say that since the "The Get Down" is based on an actual 80's phenomenon. But I guess it comes down to where you're from. If you're from the burb's or rural environment I can see why "Stranger Things" feels more familiar. Not me!

reply

I'm from NYC, actually.

Stranger Things doesn't remind me of my actual life as a child, it reminds me of my favorite things as a child - E.T., Poltergeist, The Goonies, playing board games all day, hand-writing essays because the Internet didn't exist, Tales from the Dark Side on Sunday nights, 80s new wave, Hunt's pudding packs, riding my bike around the neighborhood with friends, blasting "Africa" by Toto. Ah, the good old days.

reply

Like I said, you clearly can't identity with the characters.

reply

Well-developed characters have universal characteristics.

I paid $8 a month for Netflix up until this month and now it's $11. It is still well worth the price to me. If you are unhappy, cancel your subscription.

reply

the first season of GoT was 6 million an episode. I believe the recent season it's 10-15 million.

This show is involving a pretty famous director and filmed in NYC

reply

Exactly, I was talking about the FIRST season of Game of Thrones.

You should earn your budget year after year. Not start out with a ridiculous amount of money, especially if you've never created a tv show in the first place.

This precedent only creates more room for quick-buck feature directors that think they can charm TV executives.

Luhrmann is not a famous director. He made one enjoyable movie.

Even *really* famous directors like Scorsese fail with rubbish like 'Vinyl'.

Lessons that clearly have not been learned yet.

reply

Which is Luhrmann's only enjoyable movie? In your opinion, I mean.

That's where you're wrong----Luhrmann has made some of the biggest, most well-known films of the past two decades--ROMEO AND JULIET, MOULIN ROUGE, AUSTRALIA, and more recently, THE GREAT GATSBY. At least three of them were huge box office hits, and the first two were musicals. Just because you haven't heard of him dosen't mean he's not famous, because he is. He dosen't make a film every year like most directors usually do, that's all. Check his resume here on IMDB. His films are usually huge, over-the-top grand opera-like events, which is probably the main reason he only puts out a film every couple of years. That's why he got the chance to do this show, because he's got a proven track record with films involving music. End of story.

reply

Don't forget Strictly Ballroom!

reply

Yea complete waste of money. Nothing justifies it. Certainly not the first 4 mins of episode 1 and that horrible OUT OF sync singing.

reply

I think the cost might be from copywrite and locations. I guess. Maybe.

reply

They probably spent a ton on the music rights. Why do you care? Did you kick in? Lol. Ive been a Netflix subscriber for years and Im happy to have unique, original content like this. I certainly dont feel insulted.

reply

Why does it matter?

It doesn't to me, because it's not my money.
