Really thought provoking message to this movie.

First, look at the poster. He looks like a primal warrior... A Viking. Man in his natural state.

How does he start off in the movie? A soft, suburban stockbroker, feminized by modern society's expectations. He goes to prison and ends up a powerful warrior. A primal, barbaric man. He doesn't even want to get out of that life once he's in it. He actualizes his true potential as a man in prison.

This movie is trying to say that true masculinity is so dangerous to modern society that the only place for it is in prison.

I don't know what movie you're talking about, but the movie I've seen is about a normal guy getting screwed by the dysfunctional american prison system that makes criminals out of people instead of correcting them. If your idea of an actualized man is a rabid dog locked inside a cage against will for the rest of his life, you should reconsider your ideology.

I guess you misunderstood my post.

No, I get your point but think you're misunderstanding what it means to be a man.

Been a while since I last saw the film, but from what I recall, it's not that he didn't want to escape the gang life, it's that by the end he felt he was in too deep to just walk away.

Uhhh he definitely wants to get out of that life...the fuck were you on about lol. The only reason he stays in that life on parole is because his family was threatened if he didnt comply.

In the end, he chose prison so he could kill the big boss in there because it was the only way to protect his family.
