Farewell guys :'(

I hate to admit this, but people who love to troll, insult, bash, swear are the ones that let this happen! I'm very sad to hear that it's shutting down, message board is my favorite section on IMDB.. :(

I feel that I'm losing a member of my family, without the message board, IMDB is nothing

Feeling very disappointed, even though I truly confess that the haters annoyed me the whole way through but all of the users, I mean everyone, indirectly taught me how to do better in sarcasm, jokes, antics, banter and I swear to God, you guys made my days cause I laughed so hard that once in a while, my stomach ache (a good thing).

I used to be weak at sarcasm when involving a chat with friends but since I have used this application for 2 years, it keeps getting better and better.

Hate to say this but goodbye users. Hope we can talk again after this.

Farewell, message board of IMDB. :')

I'm with you. I feel like IMDB is cutting off my right arm. I won't be visiting daily as I usually do. I complained and so have many others. Fingers crossed.

reply

Agreed.

It sucks I read the boards daily, its very depressing.

reply

This was a really bummer to hear. Many people have hobbies and this was a great resource to talk movies, and yes, be entertained by funny comments and the ignorance of trolls. People should be able to vent about things they like and dislike about movies and Hollywood, and shutting the boards down is another way of shutting down freedom of speech.

reply

Totally agreed.

Debating films and cinema and everything in between is a lot of fun, and I'm going to miss it. That's why I created film.chat and am hoping to attract long time IMDBers to it. Please check us out at http://film.chat if you have a moment and would like to join us on this journey. We'll be giving away movie tickets and adding features every month!

I hear you man. I'm so bummed.I can't tell you how many hours I've spent reading these boards, how much I've learned here. I will still use IMDB, but it will be a pale shadow of itself without them. Often I have enjoyed reading about movies more than I enjoyed watching the movie itself, due entirely to the fine people who post here, smart witty insightful people who love movies as much as I do. I will miss all you guys.

reply

I'm with you on this.. :')

IMDb has so many smart and witty people. I've seen so many wonderful discussions on all kinds of plot holes and plots and everything in-between. I'm hoping to continue that bastion of film expertise by opening up film.chat to the public. It's a side project I made over the weekend, and I'd love to hear your thoughts! Let me know what you'd like to see added as a feature. We'll be giving away free movie tickets and adding more features every month. If you have a moment, take a look at http://film.chat

All I can say is NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!! I Absolutely hate this. If comments were really that bad, then it seems like YouTube should shut down messaging before any other outlet.
90% of the time, I'm only on imdb to scroll the message boards after I watch a movie in hopes of seeing "did anyone else notice that?" Or "does anyone else think that scene...?" Well, YouTube it is, I guess.

reply

Agreed.

I'm with you Tom. I love coming here and reading other peoples opinions, takes and interpretations. Yes, the trolls can be annoying, but like everything, you learn to take the good with the bad. As far as the sarcasm & jokes, I'm with you. I've read things here that have made me laugh so hard it hurt. I'm going to truly miss this forum. We can only hope that they reconsider.

There's no need to say farewell. We can continue the community elsewhere! I've created film.chat for this purpose. We'll be giving away movie tickets every month and adding new features, so please check us out! You can find us at http://film.chat

Yeah man I just saw this on this board. Totally my favourite part of IMDb and the reason I visit besides the ratings and trivia... And I hate social media, that is not a replacement. There is no place for this kind of diverse discussion. It's the Internet, trolling exists, it has never bothered me personally.

And no thanks, film.chat or whatever. You could really have posted once per thread and we would have got the point...

The movie db is fairly scarce but set up just like imdb.com. just up an account and stake out a new piece of land to call home.

reply

I second this. I really loved the individual movie feature. Last night I watched Imperium and Aloha and went directly to the IMDB message boards to see what other users thought. Sad that that option won't be around anymore.

I'm really liking themoviedb.org as well. Pretty skeletal since they just put in messageboards, but hopefully the more users that migrate there, the more discussions might crop up.

There's no discussion now, but here's the direct link to the Cure for Wellness discussion board
