As I recall (and I was around then) Thatcher did not talk like a stroke victim with a tree branch up her ass. Absolutely ridiculous.

You are totally correct. The decision on the part of the actress or the director to portray her that way was ridiculous.

She also looked much much thinner which made her look alarmingly ill.
