The Queen scolding Thatcher about Apartheid

So I’ve just started watching The Crown series on Netflix. It’s rather good, but tonight’s episode had me seeing red. It’s mostly about the rift that was created in 1986-1987 between the Queen and Margaret Thatcher regarding enacting sanctions against South Africa over Apartheid. The Queen was pressing hard to initiate sanctions and Thatcher to her credit was resisting equally hard. The Queen was with her head in the clouds talking about the “commonwealth family” and Thatcher was rather blunt calling them a loose confederation of failed states, meanwhile stressing that Apartheid South Africa was a regional economic powerhouse that had important business ties with the UK that created jobs in Britain. Due to the fact that Thatcher was resisting the wording of “sanctions” Buckingham Palace got the Queen’s Press Secretary to “Play around” with the wording of the text...finally duping Thatcher In way to sign the document/declaration. The Queen kept sending the Pajeet and Dindu heads of state from the Commonwealth to Thatcher, as she kept rejecting their earlier drafts. It looked like they were trying to intimidate her into signing.

It was thoroughly disgusting to watch. On an extra note...kudos to Gillian Anderson on her very good portrayal of Margaret Thatcher.
