I don't think that they do: Creepypastas are put into the public sphere for free.
I don't know if the original author of Slenderman has received anything (unless he copyrighted the name) but I hope he has!
I think if the stories get used for games/films/TV/merchandise etc, the authors should of course be paid- I'd copyright anything just in case...
Of course they do, you have no idea what you're talking about. Public domain doesn't work that way. You can't just adapt someone's story for free. The studio and network will option the rights to the stories they adapt. Kris Straub is even credited on every episode of Channel Zero.
