Seems a lot less ridiculous now that the synopsis is out.

The story of Gene, an emoji that lives inside a texting app on a teenager's smartphone. In Gene's world, each emoji has only one expression, but gene is different -- he's bursting with multiple expressions. Gene is worried that if he can't find a way to be "normal," he'll disappoint his family, or worse, be deleted. Determined to change his unusually expressive personality, gene needs a "code" that will fix his programming and make him like everyone else. With the help of his emoji friends, Gene's search takes him on a fun-filled adventure across the teenager's smartphone, from his hope in a texting app through a succession of apps (including a gaming app, a music streaming app, a photo-sharing app, a video streaming app, a dance app, and a file-sharing app).

Still sounds dumb as hell. :/

Divergent: Emojent. :P

Also sounds like a possible Wreck-It Ralph ripoff to me.

It sounds like a mix of Wreck-It Ralph and Inside Out. Staying just before the line of copyright infringement.

Here's what it sounds like to me: "OH HEY! I'M UNIQUE! LET ME CHANGE THAT AND CONFORM TO THE WAYS OF SOCIETY SO THAT I WILL BE LIKE EVERYONE ELSE AND NOT HAVE MY OWN QUIRKINESS!" Award winning messages you want to send to those little cherubs called "kids".

Yeah, couldn't agree more with that...Inside Out since each is suppose to represent an emotion. No idea how it'll end, but I'm guessing the main character will wind up embracing his "divergence" (convergence?), and just showing up to do his duty when the teen wants to use him to express herself? Maybe they'll all learn they can do that and have multiple expressions most of the time whilst living in phone-world? Idk. It just definitely sounds like a plot for a short cartoon that should not be stretched into a feature. I love the updated emoji designs my phone downloaded last month, but it's hard to imagine a good movie about the yellow-face ones. Maybe something could be done with the complete set (including all the various humans and the animals and whatnot, living in a digital land composed of the nature, travel, object, activity, food, symbol, etc., designs.) That could be something like The Lego Movie (which I didn't like as much as everyone else seemed to.)

Honestly, I hope this flops big time so that Hollywood film makers can decide what's okay to make a movie of and what isn't (although I don't believe that will happen, I can only hope).

Yeah, same. It'd sure be nice if the general public would see fit to finally teach that lesson. `-`

Sounds like they're pandering to the LGBTQI crowd
