My Ranking of The Entire Franchise

I recently re-watched all of the MI movies in a span of about 5 days and some surprised me as being better than I remembered. Anyway, without further ado, here are my rankings:

6. MI 2 - the only one which I couldn't finish. It's a lot of cringe that ruins whatever good is in it

5. MI 4: Ghost Protocol. In many ways this movie and Rogue Nation are interchangeable, but GP has a more forgettable villain. The best part of this one is the Burj Khalifa set piece

4. MI 5: rogue nation - I enjoyed Jeremy Renner settling into a bureaucrat role against Alec baldwin, but i don't find rebecca Fergusons femme fatale role very inspired. Solomon Lane is a solid villain though

3. MI 3 - MUCH better than I remembered. A very good villain and a style of action that is less cartoonish than that found in mcquarrie's films. More coherent writing too

MI 1 - stylish, simple, and De Palma is the only director who didn't allow Cruise's presence to become bigger than the story. Ethan Hunt doesn't just feel like a TC avatar

MI 6: Fallout - this movie benefits greatly from its continuity w/ Rogue Nation. The only sequel that doesn't feel like a reset. Not changing the supporting cast and building off of the previous story allows the lore to grow like never before. The plot and the stakes feel less arbitrary. TC finally gets to have his cake and eat it too
