Yes, this film is pretty great.

Don't know if you've seen these, but since you don't mind subtitles, check out Borgman (Dutch), Martyrs (French), III The Ritual (Russian), The Strange Color of Your Body's Tears (French-Danish), Amer (French-Danish), Magical Girl (Spanish), A Girl Walks Home Alone at Night (Persian), I Saw the Devil (Korean), Inside and In My Skin (both French), Three... Extremes and Three (both Asian)

- all are pretty great horror-terror thrillers.

Thanks for the list, I'll be sure to check those out. I LOVED Baskin and also A Girl Walks Home Alone At Night - they both had a lot to offer stylistically and thematically, and I found the writing and acting to be quite compelling as well. I don't understand the hate surrounding Baskin, and how people can just dismiss it as "lazy." I think that it is a much more complex film than people are giving it credit for, and the "laziness" to me just seems like they don't understand it. The motifs in it come full-circle and actually all fit together quite nicely in the universe of the movie, unlike many other films (especially horror/thriller films) that try to do so and fail.

It reminded me a lot of David Lynch's Mulholland Drive, especially with the use of the diner for dream-like sequences/discussing dreams and the lighting/tone of the shots as well as the strange humor/comic relief. Overall, I think it is a delightfully dark film that takes the viewer to places that it doesn't expect to be taken, and makes the viewer also question what is real life/dream life and I love films that do that successfully.

No mention of "Angst" (1983)? Absolute classic of German/ horror cinema. One of the most solid films I've ever seen. Seems like it's directed by Kubrick. Must see for horror fans. You've been warned.

Great list!
I thoroughly enjoyed this film & wholeheartedly agree with OP's sentiment. I've seen a few of the above mentioned films, which I enjoyed, so I'll def check out the rest. I've heard of them all, but wouldn't have known they run in the vein of Baskin, so should be good! Horrorfest tonight/, anyone?
