The Dad is a *beep* A**hat.

I'm on episode 8 and I've been somewhat enjoying the show, Danny Masterson and Ashton Kutcher do a great job, Danny Masterson holds up the comedy part a lot better I think Ashton has his moments but the Dad wow what a *beep* dick, his character is so unlikable it makes me almost hate the show everytime he walks on screen I know it is supposed to be a tough time for him but how can you relate with such a stubborn old *beep* of a person? I dont want things to get better I want him to lose the *beep* ranch and then die of a heart attack.

Other than that cool show lol.

You won't relate because you have never lived or worked on a ranch. Not the bring the tourists on horseys to look at the creek and swim in the local water hole type ranch. The work checking fences and water lines to storage tanks and checking cattle for any killed by predators. Herding cattle to pens to give them inoculations and transfer to secondary graze lands. Culling herds, chasing down cattle that get stuck in canyons away from the herd. A Real Ranch takes hard work and never really makes you rich, and without guys like their dad, you get people sitting at a steak house complaining of the price of a ribeye while calling the dad on this show an A**hat.

And that's exactly why I love his character. Beau is a bossy, stubborn, arrogant, hard-assed, unlikable jerk. Which just shows that Sam Elliott is such a good actor and so convincing.

reply

Do you know any men about Elliot's age? He is EXACTLY like my father and father-in-law. Stubborn, opinionated, usually non-talkative unless it's to cut somebody down, sometimes downright cruel and just plain mean.

I don't know about my FIL, but my father has ALWAYS been that way.

It's Sam-fuggin'-Elliot. He can do no wrong.

Exactly!!

Sam Elliott is awesome. But his character is a douchebag.

reply

The dad is the best character. Sam Elliot is the only reason I watch it.

reply

Yep. He and Danny Masterson were originally the only reason I started watching. Beau is awesome. I love his dry humor and his crabby attitude. I grew up knowing quite a few old timers like him. But with me being a girl they usually were big softies.

Beau's dynamic has him in conflict with nearly every other character on the show which I think helps ensure its not just fun and jokes. Helps it feel a bit more realistic to me.

Seems we can see who was raised by a Father and who lived in a house where the dad was their "friend"

Oh, i love it. Sam Elliot is the #1 reason to watch this show.

I totally agree about Sam Elliott but Debra Winger is bringing some good stuff too. You could maybe think of their relationship as what Bud and Sissy may have become in 35 years.

I think is a bad copy from Red Forman in That 70s show
