Fire Alarms

Aren't fire alarms supposed to help notify the fire department that there is a fire at a location? If so, why don't they show up? More importantly, why wasn't this the first thing she tried to use?

I don't think residential fire alarms are connected to any kind of network, at least I've never seen one that was. Seems like it might be a good idea for a deaf persons to be though.

reply

Not usually but there are kinds like hers for special needs people that do

Our fire alarm at home is connected to the rest of our alarm system and every time it goes off (lets just say I've burned some food and set it off accidentally a couple of times) they call within one minute, if there is no answer they send the fire department immediately.
This is not uncommon here in Norway at least.
I would imagine that a deaf woman living so isolated would have something like that but idk. She should have had a Home Security system as well..

But clearly hers were not hooked up to anything, OR if it was, then the power cut killed the wifi or whatever kind of connection it had. It was established when people kept telling her she shouldn't be so isolated at the beginning that she was taking a few too many risks with how she was living. (Talk about learning a lesson the hard way...)

How?

reply

Hers definitely wasnt.

Some fire alarms are, some arent. The ones in my house arent connected to any network.
