Uh oh. Really struggling to find an audience. Might not even make half the gross of SLOP1

Yup. It's doing that bad.

Secret Life of Pets 1
Domestic: $368,384,330 42.1%
+ Foreign: $507,073,607 57.9%
= Worldwide: $875,457,937

Secret Life of Pets 2
Domestic: $151,551,165 47.6%
+ Foreign: $167,000,000 52.4%
= Worldwide: $318,551,165

It's looking like at least a 50% drop from the $875 million gross of the first film. One of the biggest disappointments this year that was unfortunately another victim of the Disney juggernaut films.

With a budget of just $80 million this movie made money. Not as much as the first one but it still performed well enough. Illumination Studios is a relative gold mine for Universal.

That's why it's really disappointing. To go from their biggest domestic earner to their 2nd lowest domestic earner has to be concerning for them and future films. From being one of the most profitable films of 2016 to at best a small profit with the sequel is definitely wasn't what they were hoping for.

And not a word from the Universal Booster and Disney Detractor on this financially disappointing incident??!!

SLOP2 cost more and might make 50% less? That is a stunning miscalculation of Box Office potential!

If I recall correctly someone predicted that not only would SLOP2 gross over a billion but it would take the financial wind out of the sails of this summer's Disney animated films. Don't think that happened. SLOP2 was also supposed to have deep, strong, long legs. But no such attributes were extended to Disney's summer animated films. Hmmmmmm, curious don't you think? One might assume there is some Disney bias in someone's assessment of Universal's and Disney's box office predictions.

Do you honestly really think that Disney impacted SLOP2?

Domestic: $157,086,990 39.2%
+ Foreign: $244,000,000 60.8%
= Worldwide: $401,086,990

SLOP2 hasn't done much since you posted that summary and it doesn't look to have the summer legs that QueenFanUSA was basically guaranteeing.

My take is that it was a novelty film that attracted audiences and had no real lasting affect on that audience. Plus the sequel offered nothing really novel for a second outing that hasn't been done before. Babies and pets are a sure thing but would it be a $1 Billion dollar sure bet?
