I have read thousands of books and seen thousands of movies and tv shows. Met tens of thousands of cheracters. Horror, thrillers, suspense, historical fiction and non-fiction.

Never, ever, have I met a character as awful as Vic's mother. She is hands-down the worst person I have ever "known".

Nah, she's more pathetic than anything. Worst person would be if she would have beaten and nearly killed (or did kill) her daughter. She's selfish and pathetic certainly. I don't know how far along you're into the series but she does something toward the end that sort of redeems her.
