What happened in the end of this movie?

No she just gets in the corner holding him and pointing a knife towards the door.

I doubt it. She loved him as her own son. I think the police shot her, probably because she tried to make a move on them.

Honestly I think its up to you. It doesn't really change the narrative in any way. Whether the police shot her before or after she killed the boy doesn't change her story, which is what matters.

I think the real question is whether or not she was able and willing to kill the boy, as that goes to the heart of who she was. Given her loneliness, and reluctance to kill either the rapist or the mother, I doubt she would have been capable of doing so.
