ONE THING LED TO ANOTHER

The Chappaquiddick incident was supposed to have been the inspiration for the John Travolta movie Blow Out.

SPECIAL UPDATE: I finally saw the movie Chappaquiddick. It was slow, dry, the acting so-so. It may have been a major scandal in 1969 (I lived in northeast Massachusetts in 1969 and remember the media firestorm), but now it just isn't that important.

reply

Uh, no.

It’s well known that Blow Out was a reworked version of a 1960s (Italian) film called Blow-Up. (Similar story but totally based on photos, no sound)

reply

Don't be a jerk. Everybody familiar with Blow Out knows Blow Up was the immediate inspiration for that film, but the central car accident which sets the plot in motion has more than a passing resemblance to the details of the Chappaquiddick episode.

My response was being a jerk?

What was yours then?

reply

Truth. It hurts sometimes.

reply

OK, I’ll stoop to your level then.

Stop being a douchebag.

And another thing, the original post said it was "the inspiration". My reply was to point out it was not, which it was wasn't,

Sure, the script writers and De Palma likely referenced the Chappaquiddick event, heck, every theater goer that saw it and was over the age of 20 likely thought of Ted Kennedy while in the theater, but that does not make it an or the inspiration, it makes it maybe a script influence for not even a dozen seconds of the film. The rest of the film bears ZERO resemblance to the Chappaquiddick incident.

If that makes me a jerk then you have a very odd dictionary.
