Ryan was in the right place at the right time when he earned Garza's trust. If it weren't for that, he'd be screwed.

Five years later and I'm just now watching this show. I had the same thought. Ryan's very cute, but kind of nerdy. Garza didn't befriend him, immediately (I think it was two weeks before Garza invited Ryan upstairs), so he could easily have been hazed the same as Brian. It could've been because he went under the stairs right away. Out of sight out of mind?
