I hope the 'amphibious man' is original

Since Doug Jones is in this, I have no doubt he will be playing the part of the "amphibious man". I just hope the image they have in mind for this character is an original concept and not literally Abe Sapien. Don't get me wrong, I absolutely loved Jones as Abe in the Hellboy series, but this is not part of that universe and as such I hope it takes a different road for the character design. I would also like to see how Doug portrays a different kind of water dwelling humanoid!

Del Toro said they spent nine months designing the creature, the most time he has ever spent on one design. And he said he was in awe of it.

That said, I doubt it's an Abe Sapien lookalike.

And wasn't it also based on the 1962 Soviet classic film "The Amphibian Man" (that's what its called, not "amphibiOUS".)
