Sorry but this director just makes weird, unwatchable crap. A few nice visuals but just utter weird crap.

I was surprised I liked this one, but I could not take Pan's Labyrinth.

Pan should have just been a WWII drama. That part was great but the fantasy was distracting and dull. It all felt like a different movie mixed in. She could have had more subtle mental escapes. Didnt need to be shown.

His early movies are what can be called 'unwatchable' but masterpieces nevertheless.
Most of his later movies are professionally done, entertaining and very watchable, but yes, crap they are.

I found Shape of Water to be totally off-kilter but surprisingly enjoyable. Certainly professionally done

I think you're on to something here, it is definitely weird and odd (not hard to believe for this flick) but fairly easy to enjoy
