Inquiry: Do you like the actual ship?

The last episode (S2Ep6) gave a lot of good looks at the ship as it traveled through space. I can't get past the 3 rings. IMO, they look odd. The rest of the ship is nice and sleek-looking, but the rings distract from the rest of the ship.

I don't mind it, on a Seth MacFarlane comedy level it works to me like say people putting huge spoilers on Cars. Though more than likely it is a nod to the look of the ships on Gene Roddenberry's Andromeda (2000-2005), the Andromeda Ascendant and the Triumvirate Heavy Cruiser to name two.

No. All the stuff in the way of the cargo/launch bay is just ridiculous. Nor do I care for the bridge design. But. I don't like anything.

reply

The bridge seems so exposed like it just the end of a large hallway. I am waiting for an ep where they are having some important communication with an alien and the janitor starts vacuuming the other end of the hallway.

reply

That's funny. I could see them doing something like that on this show.

reply

I agree regarding the bridge. It looks cheap to me. Like someone decided to save money by NOT putting some design into it.

reply

No, its not an iconic design, it just looks weird with the three large rings at the back.

I also don't like the uniform design, the plastic looking epaulette design upon the shoulders makes them look cheap.

The title of the show could of been better too, I get it’s a nod to Orville Wright, and as a ship title its ok but not a show title, as a UK viewer of a certain age whenever Orville is mentioned I tend to think of a ventriloquist's budgie in a nappy and his 'orrible song! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TGnuMxFnc1k

That said I do enjoy the show and find it much more entertaining than Star Trek: Discovery.

Not too into the ship design. Always got the impression that they were going for a two-lips-with-tongue kind of thing. Like what one must do to make the traditional raspberry sound.
From certain perspectives, it looks good. Overall, though, not so much.

Love the show.

The ship is not aesthetically pleasing. It looks like they tried to make it too curvy and 'weird' for its own good, instead of planning it based on functionality, common sense and more subtle, eye-pleasing aesthetics. Look at the old Porsche cars - some of the designs are boring, some are absolutely beautiful - and yet they still look like cars, and still look curvy.

This ship looks like they tried to look 'different' in some ways, as to distance themselves from the classic Star Trek ships (that look much better, and actually eye-pleasing), while trying to mimic them at the same time.

The ship looks like something went wrong with a mutation - it's grotesque and icky, if I saw a spaceship like that in real life, I would run away from it instead of embracing it and wanting to take a ride in it.

They should've had more humility in the design, instead of trying to make it look oh-so-modern-and-trendy, while ending up looking like a sausage that was overheated until one of its ends blew up.

And it doesn't even look aerodynamic!

No, the ship looks like crap. Art direction took a run of the mill Star Trek starship and planted those funky things on the back so it couldn't be accused of being derivative. So, it looks like what it is--a bad copy of a Star Trek starship trying desperately to not look like a bad copy of a Star Trek starship.
