The Announcements make no sense

"I just wanted to let you know.. (pause) .. we're approaching Earth".

What?

Why would they announce anything that way, especially considering this is MILITARY. Star Trek is not openly militaristic, but clearly uses military conventions, and in those shows/movies, the announcement would be "Captain, we're approaching Earth" or "Captain, we will reach Earth perimeter in five minutes" or SOMETHING like that.

What.. why would anyone announce their WANTS? What you WANT someone to know is IRRELEVANT! Just tell me what the damn message is, what the hell?

This is like casual cellphone chitchat with valley girl bimbos instead of military communication that should cut off the irrelevant crap just to give you the relevant data and information. Why the heck would they make announcements that start with 'I just wanted to let you know', EVER?!

What do YOUR WANTS have to do with giving me information? JUST GIVE ME THE GOD DAMN INFORMATION!!
