I didn't understand the point of the whole part there. Martin is even more enraged of being lied to, by a white lie, than he was when he found out his dad died... What's the relevance?

People were being nice to him because his father died. Colin Farrell's character starts being nice to Martin, because of him inadvertently causing his death. The "lies" about spaghetti demonstrated that people were just trying to comfort Martin, but their actual niceness wasn't sincere, it was just to make him feel better, similar to how Colin Farrell's character was hanging out with him, not because he cared about Martin, but because he felt guilty.

I was disappointed that no bacon was taped to the wall.

I also thought about that infamous bath tub scene in Gummo when Martin was eating spaghetti. It's something awfully disturbing with the way they are eating.
