I question some of the father's decisions...

I know they were going thru a difficult situation and you can't judge someone until you are in their shoes, but I questioned a few things:

• Is it appropriate for a father to tell an another adult male friend that his daughter started menstruating?
• Is it appropriate for a father to tell his son that he once gave his own father a hand job?
• The parents, especially the father, seemed kind of cold and distant. They didn't exude the parental warmth you'd expect. It seemed harsh, especially for a dad, when he took his son out of the wheelchair to see if he could walk and kept dropping him or to force feed him the doughnut.
• When the sister told her brother she loved him but asked for his MP3 player when he died that also seemed insensitive, as it was not clear he would be chosen to die, and even so that seems so petty.
