Wow....

I binged-watched this show on Friday of last week. You have to pay close attention to the goings on in the lives of each character and see how their experiences are all woven in with other characters, major and minor.
It's undoubtedly one of the more thought-provoking time travel stories I've seen. Clear your mind and open it while watching. What a ride!

Stranger Things for adults, sort of. I've been recommending this to everyone I know who enjoyed that show. Can't wait for the next season, assuming it gets renewed.

reply

I would hope they'd renew for a season 2. It's a definite hit.

aside the 80's aesthetics and soundtrack (which was 10000% better in DARK) I don't see the resemblance to Stranger things.

this felt more like a watered down version of Twin Peaks, without the superb masterful Lynch's direction/atmosphere, and with some messy time-travel hook.

It was good, but I don't know, could've been way better.

time travel tv-shows tend to get really stupid after a while, it happened to Lost and I already don't see the point of the time travel plotline here, it feels way too forced sometimes.

reply

The similar aspects between the two(very few of them) are a mere coincidence or zeitgeist if you may. Stranger Things premiered on July 2016, whle Dark was greenlit by Netflix on Feb. 2016 and began shooting in october later that year.

I agree to a certain extent, about the longevity of time travel themed shows, however I think if you know where you want to go with a story (as clearly wasn't the case with LOST), you can tell a competent, intelligent and tight story that has a satisfying conclusion. LOST was just "let's start writing something and see what happens" in it's approach. It was crap.

I think the best time travel movies and television shows (Primer, Edge Of Tomorrow, 12 Monkeys and Doctor Who), have good stories with tight writing that weaves a coherent telling, from beginning to end. DARK seems more like one of these than LOST, at least to this reviewer.

reply

you should add Prestination to your list. Probably the best time travel film i've ever seen.

reply

Okay, I just went and read about the movie on wiki and it sounds amazing. I'll definitely see it and thanks for the recommendation!

reply

oops, forgot to mention to not read any reviews because of spoilers and I just looked up the wiki and I really hope you didn't get past the first paragraph as it pretty much describes the entire film and this film is best watched without any prior knowledge of the plot.

hope you liked it.

Agree. There will always be logical problems when the story is about time traveling or if you are dead or in a coma - like "Life on Mars" and "Ashes to Ashes", in my opinion extremely great shows! I think you need to go along with the story in some part even if you feel they might deceive you. Did this make sense or what?

reply

Yeah, amazing show - I'm only through 5 episodes and am absolutely loving it. As well as being damn good, it's also one of the most gorgeous looking tv programmes I've ever seen.

Right up there with Gomorrah and Mr. Robot as 2017s best.

What a ride indeed! Fantastic show in absolutely all aspects of it. Perfect in it's period pieces. Great acting, editing, sound and story. Will go so far as saying I haven't been so exited after a season of a
TV-show since earlier seasons of GOT or Breaking Bad.

reply

Totally agree and I'd add that every moment looks and sounds amazing.
