"Hereditary" is so much more sophisticated in terms of its scares, storytelling, direction, acting, music, cinematography and use of its budget ... whereas "The Nun" is one of the worst films I've watched in a cinema all year.

While Hereditary is clearly a superior piece of filmmaking, I can see why The Nun would be considered a more watchable+attention grabbing movie by more general movie goers... or even by “true” cinephiles (personally, I wasn’t too psyched for Hereditary at first). Sure, these people you encountered may be missing one too many brain cells. But to reiterate, there are those that don’t overanalyze or debate movies so passionately and will call any movie they found to be more up their alley better. The nerve of them!
The only execution of The Nun I want to see is at a gallows.
