How did the trial end up in NYC (again)?

Wasn't the crash in upstate NY? There are other court districts besides NYC.

Maybe the airline is headquartered in NYC.

In the first episode, it was believed that the murder occurred on a boat docked near Manhattan.

It clearly said Bahamas.

Thank you! I thought I was off my rocker.

Yes. That's where the body was found, but the murder occurred on the yacht during a high school party. They never said where the yacht was during the party, but it probably wasn't the Bahamas, and the party could have been off the coast of NYC.

I have no idea how the body got to the Bahamas, but even if the murder occurred on the boat in international waters and not in the waters near New York, then the country in which the boat is registered has jurisdiction. If a murder occurs on a boat was registered to the U.S., and there are no other countries who could claim clear jurisdiction, then the U.S. has jurisdiction, due to the boat registry.

Civil trials often end up in the jurisdiction of the entity being sued especially if it is a class action lawsuit since those suing will often be from several different jurisdictions around the country.

Absolutely correct about civil trials, but when they announced the verdict, it was "not guilty". In a civil trial you find for the plaintiff or defendant. Either the writers don't care or are incredibly sloppy. I won't even begin with the aviation related errors. This show has Michael Weatherly and a interesting concept going for it, but the writing is CRAP.
