Bull - #1 New Show

I saw a commercial tonight on CBS claiming that Bull is the "#1 New Show"!

however, I searched the web in an effort to find something to substantiate that claim - and came up empty...

"#1" based on what figures?
where is it #1?
with whom is it #1?

I've been reading viewer comments all week long, and it seems reaction to the show is fairly lukewarm...

so, is this just CBS blowing their own horn, or are there some real numbers out there to back what they're saying...

seems a little early in the game to be making such superlative claims, isn't it?

anybody have an answer for this?

Bull had the highest number of total viewers of any new show that premiered so far. No other show has come close on that metric. I think "This is Us" had the highest 18-49 number

And no it is not too early to be making that claim. Last year "Blind Spot" on NBC had the largest number of viewers for a new show and like clockwork NBC was touting that in ads that very same week.

Networks do that to create buzz for their new shows. It is simply smart marketing.

Considering the number of threads/replies that were posted here after the first episode, I'm not surprised. Even if half the comments expressed disappointment, they're still counted among those who watched. High ratings of a premier are not influenced by "lukewarm reviews." But poor reviews may affect viewership of subsequent episodes. And unless a show is totally appalling, I think many will tune in again looking to be entertained and/or giving it a chance hoping it improves.

We'll know next week if it remains CBS' #1. IMO, it has no competition on Tuesday night. Regardless of any of that, I'm looking forward to the next episode.

I think some of the lukewarm reaction was 1) critics who are pre-disposed to dislike anything they think is a CBS demographic 2) skeptics of Dr. Phil 3) reviews from some that I swear really didn't watch the show and 4) people who just didn't care for it, with no agenda.

I liked it. I think CBS can say what they want because they do have the numbers to back it. Don't you think the other networks would put out something to the contrary if it were wrong? I expect they would.

Personally I don't care about the numbers. I want it to do well of course, because I like it, but otherwise that's for the producers to worry about. I have no control over that (other than to watch it myself) nor do I care about the critics. They can lukewarm all they want. I judge for myself and that makes me watch/not watch any show.

Another new show I watched and liked a lot was Designated Survivor on ABC (Wednesday). I was shocked to find out it got 9.95 million viewers. I totally expected it to hit the upper teens (18-19 million) in viewership.

Number 1 among all new 2016-2017 shows premiering on Tuesday nights right after NCIS.

As a long time MW fan, I watched. The show immediately went on my probation list of shows that get a few more episodes to get better. Still hoping for the best from "Bull,' but the pilot was kinda "meh."

Cheers!

CBS’ Bull, meanwhile, delivered the largest total audience in Live+3 numbers, growing 25 percent to 19.4 million viewers. (That adjusted viewership pulls it ahead of lead-in NCIS, which wound up with 19.2 mil; both shows scored a 2.9 demo rating).

I kinda agree with you, Bellasario knew and understood premises, by virtue of his hit after hit shows, but this premise makes no sense, we saw Bull assist in examining a potential jury, ok... where do they go from there, you can't do that every week, Bull is not a cop, or an investigator, or a judge or anything but an advisor, are we supposed to watch him sit in a courtroom every week? exciting is not a word for this show.

Edit, watched the show after I posted, I kinda liked it,

Do they still call it an elevator when it goes down?

Did anyone think it wasn't going to get high ratings? No matter how good or bad it is, it will always get high ratings. We talk about high ratings because we watch NCIS and see the ratings it gets, but NCIS is an anomaly. But if Bull gets 10M or less on a consistent basis, it will still be considered a hit. I think the show needs some tweaking but I'm still going to turn in tonight.

I think it was the No.1 best new show for the 9pm slot on Tuesday nights.
