Throwing in my two cents *spoilers*

laughs* YES YES YES, FINALLY A GOOD VIDEO GAME MOVIE!!!! PRAISE THE MOVIE GODS FOR THEY HAVE SMILED UPON US!!!!! *heart rate slows down again*
Okay, okay, yes this movie is resoundingly alright, but I’m excited that it’s this good, and not (looks at Uwe Boll’s movies)...
so let’s not waste anytime, let’s jump right into it!

Pro:
The designs of these Pokémon are so gorgeous!!! Taking 2D characters, and making them 3D have often had people either screaming in terror, or laughing hilariously. (If you’re Sonic, you’ve done both) The design of every Pokémon is so well thought out, and so nice to look at.

Ryan Reynolds is a surprisingly perfect choice for Pikachu. The screenplay compliments his talent pristinely, and his motion capture work is amazing. (Also the thought of Ryan Reynolds making cute faces in a motion capture suit is a thought that could bring world peace)

The mystery element of this movie, even if predictable, is fun to watch. The characters kept me interested in what was about to happen, and each sequence was done nicely.

Can I please have Mewtoo’s voice? That voice is *fangirl scream* yeah that.

The world set up is so fun to watch. It’s like a world that has just accepted Poké culture.

Cons:
The main reason I didn’t give this a four or five star rating is... well... it’s still a paint by numbers script. Sure the direction, and acting make it work really well, but children’s movie screenplays have been pretty great before (Aladdin, Tarzan, Treasure Planet, Inside Out, Toy Story, etc.) I felt the screenplay could have been a little more challenging in its message, while still staying true to Pokémon.

Defense: (BRAND NEW)

Q: How did he not recognize his Father’s voice when he was Pikachu?

A: He hadn’t seen, or heard from his dad since he was really little. His voice probably got lost in his memory, and couldn’t remember what his dad sounded like.

I Enjoyed this movie, it’s a fun little time killer.
