Inconsistency concerning "her," the old-timey pagan deity

She's depicted as being held captive in the limbs of the tree-thing, but is also seen in the watery tunnels menacing the protagonist. So is she captive or isn't she? Maybe she gets to wander the dark, claustrophobic labyrinths in her spare time for exercise?

I wasn't sure about that, either...maybe that was a vision in the tunnels...? Malcolm has a line like, "You chose to reveal yourself to him!?" so, maybe she can project herself around? She creeps around the church earlier, too.

There's also an inconsistency with what the blood does, isn't there? She provides growth and bounty in exchange for blood. But then the island is becoming poisonous and barren again because...? It's implied that she's cursing it because of her imprisonment, but she was imprisoned by the trio of criminals from the word "go", so...? Is it that they kidnapped Jennifer...?

Some movies that leave a lot of questions are good because you watch it again -- paying closer attention -- and those questions are answered, sometimes brilliantly.

With "Apostle" the answers might've been in the script, but -- assuming they were shot -- they must've gotten cut to trim the film closer to two hours. If so, there's probably like 20-25 minutes of expositional footage on the cutting room floor.

I didn't understand this part either.
