Why Always Broke...

I give it to Creed, he knew how to manage his money and that's why his wife is living well.

But Rocky and Adonis... what the hell is going on. A heavyweight champ has to be making over $100 million a year with endorsements. Yet the dude is living in an average place and the beloved trainer can't even get the street light fixed. This doesn't seem realistic.

It was realistic. Rocky spent all his money on his restaurant

reply

LOL. If he sank $300 million into that tiny restaurant in low end Philly, then he truly is a horrible businessman. By the way Rocky's son also barely middle-class.

reply

Back on his feet, now he's choppin' up meat
Come inside maybe you'll hear him say
Try the..rye or the kaiser

reply

It's funny that Creed was so good with his money, in view of all the unnecessary fanfare (i.e. the admittedly brilliant James Brown performance) and extravegance that prefaced his match against Ivan Drago.

Rocky was much more humble in his spending habits, and yet he lost it all.

Before Rocky went to Russia in R4, Paulie accidentally signed a power of attorney to the family Jewish accountant who stole nearly all of the family's money, when the accountant duped Rocky and Adrian when the papers they signed that wasn't a tax extension, but a power of attorney to the accountants. He robbed them blind.

Perhaps this story could be a spinoff movie as well in this universe. Instead of boxing this would focus on accounting and tax issues as well as financial planning and the shady characters therein.

I think they're far from broke. Its implied Rocky is now managing Mickey's gym, so he probably bought the place after Rocky VI. And I don't think he's making money out of it at all, he's probably running it like an NGO. Also, I don't think he made that much money from the Dixon fight, it was an exhibition, with some of the proceedings going to charity, according to the organizers. At some point, it's likely he helped out his son, after he quit his job.

As for Adonis, he moved to LA and it's an expensive place to live. But probably Rocky also taught Donnie not to live an opulent life, after his own experience. He said more than once he doesn't care about money. He knows all the money in the world won't bring back Adrian.
