I read Hawkman as a kid..when the heck did he get almost Superman pwer??????????

Yeah he was ridiculously overpowered.

Hawkman got upgraded in DC comics a few years back, I think around the Dark Knights Metal arc.

The depiction here is nothing like the rebooted version of Hawkman there, but my point is, DC was trying to change his image from just being a joke.
