Why are Netflix releasing this now instead of Halloween?

Why not October?

I'm sure no one is going to have an actual answer to this, but it's a good question. The timing does seem strange.

I never read the books, but I'm aware of them and am curious about the films. Hopefully they are good.

reply

Not every Fear Street book is set around Halloween - it should be Goosebumps. So, I think it's perfect time to release these movies in the summer.

reply

Yeah perhaps it makes sense for numbers.

I’m a seasonal horror fan though, and only watch horror in October. I can’t imagine I’m the only one

reply

You are in the minority. Us true horror folk love watching it year round.

reply

The question then is how many moviegoers are "true horror folk."

I actually an more inline with ManToTrust. While I may watch the very occasional horror film during other times of the year, 90% of what I watch will be during October.

reply

Fair enough I guess. But for the people who are fans of horror, if they all only came out one month of the year we'd be on the edge of our seats 11 months out if every year. They still do leave the big horror releases for October though, usually.

reply

Sure. I would never expect studios to only release horror films during October and there are undoubtedly enough serious horror fans to make money off these kinds of movies all year round. I guess it helps that horror films often tend to have lower budgets than other genres, often times SIGNIFICANTLY lower.

Frankly, the profit margin tends to be pretty insane. I remember when I read that Ouija only had a $5 million budget but made over $100 million. There are a lot of stories like that in this genre, for whatever reason.

reply

Yeah same with the movie escape room. I really like that movie. I think it had a ten mill budget and made about 150. The sequel has just been released here in Australia. I'm just waiting for this covid lockdown they just imposed on us then I'm going to check it out, hopefully tomorrow.

If you're on the fence about watching this is I'd say give it a go. I liked it. It's nothing groundbreaking and they kinda wasted the fact it was set in the 90's. But it's not a bad way to spend an hour and a half. Fun to watch with tongue in cheek.

Why are Netflix releasing this now instead of Halloween?

^^

I think I know the answer to this...

and The answer is, Netflix is hoping to tap into the "Stranger Things" audience.

since this was announced, Its been described as If you liked "Stranger Things" you'll like this..

They Cast 2 of The Main stars from Stranger Things

and The reason they are releasing it now is....The Last season of Stranger Things was released at almost this exact same time over July 4th weekend 2 years

I think Netflix is trying make things as similar to Stranger Things as possible to draw in that audience.

From what I read Stranger Things season 3 did Great numbers opening over The July 4th weekend 2 years ago....Netflix is hoping for a similar result
