Touchy feely kills scary

A young child killed just because he wanted to play, a feeling of guilt, a rebellious daughter, motherhood, a son telling his father to let the daughter know he loves her, hugs, a new baby, a father’s sacrifice for his children, a family praying together at the dinner table, even... All this soap opera crap that doesn’t need to be in what is supposed to be a high tension horror movie. I wanted to be scared, but the interpersonal stuff just got in the way.

Totally disagree, it makes it even more tense when you realize they are holding on to life as we currently know it and don't want to see it go, attempting to live as normal as they can. For me, it made it more tense and emotional throughout.

OK, the family drama worked for some, but I'm with you: I found it the same family drama cliche in other movies and so dull that I FF'd through it. And I like well-done, non-cliche family dramas, but mix the cliche with what's supposed to be a horror movie which has a flimsy premise at best, and I really don't get the hype for this movie, except that people love Emily Blunt.

in contrast i find it really appealing since it adds a sense of realism into the story, that you are actually living a 'normal'life under the terror of those creatures
