This film had a great message

I feel sad people didn’t like this film since I think it had a very nice message about self confidence.

How when she became self confident she had her dream job and got her boyfriend and everything started to go right for her but also said about being careful of not going cocky or turning into a bitch because that’s not cool.

The film tells us that confidence and self esteem will take us to the top. They went with a not so skinny girl or making her look super skinny Because the film wants us to see that what made her pretty to others was her confidence. That she believes she is pretty.

I loved this movie and this is a great example of doing girl power right without being forced on us.

I haven't seen it. It is a good message, though. A think a lot of people are just rubbed the wrong way by Amy Schumer. Which I kinda get. I think she's okay, but I can't sit and watch one of her standup specials, just clips. She's kinda like Will Ferrell for me - small doses are fine, but whole movies become a drag.

Yeah maybe it’s because of the lack of popularity or love for Amy Schumer that it was so badly received.

When I went to see this movie I didn’t have a clue about her and was totally neutral so enjoyed the movie for what it was.
Check this film is definitely worth watching and the humor it’s pretty tamed and totally not gross. Trust me, I really dislike gross humor like the one in bridesmaids and the women like McCartney but this not that kind of humor at all.

It’s more legally blond, clueless like sense of humor they just went with Amy Schumer because they needed someone to be believable as insecure about her weight and be insecure all around and then herself believing she is pretty.

But it’s really not gross at all. it’s a very white and innocent sense of humor. The casting of Amy Schumer sadly made people prejudice this film as something which is not.

It’s super ultra chick flick.

I think this film kinda got caught in the crossfire of politicized movies and burned partly because of it. A lot of angry dudes decided that this was an SJW film and started trying to burn it. I don't know why. These politicized movies are often random targets.

Then, SJW types (who normally push back) decided that Schumer was too pretty. She was white, able-bodied, cis-gendered, blonde, and not fat enough (!) to be the main character of a movie with this message, so they turned on the film, too.

To top it off, I think at the time, there was a lot of ill-will for Schumer in the comedy community because of joke theft accusations, which...I've seen the clips, and Schumer does look potentially guilty.

So, with three potential audiences for the film turning on it, I think it got punched out.

It sounded fine to me, I just didn't have any interest. Like, if friends of mine were going to watch it, I'd have gone with, I just wasn't going to go on my own.

Ohh okay thanks for the whole explanation of why this film ended up being so generally hatted. It makes much more sense now.
I thought it was just because people didn’t like Amy Schumer’s humor in her own tv series. Like ughh if I’m going for that type of humor i won’t see it but the whole context of the general hate makes more sense now.

It does have girl power in it but well done not forced, now it seems like all girl power films are all SJW forced feminism.

Sure it has a girl power message but not men hating, girl power like many films do. The message is about making girls of all sizes feel beautiful and worthy of success.

If the Amy Schumer controversy you told me about wouldn’t have happened, I think I’d say it’s great they didn’t go with someone really big because after all real obesity isn’t healthy either and it’s actually really dangerous.
But hey her Choosing our protagonist a little overweight wasn’t a bad idea. The casting choice physically was the right one for this part and Amy was really good in that part.

I think it was a factor, anyway. I didn't really follow it too closely, but it sorta seemed to be cropping up (and I definitely skimmed an article talking about how the movie wasn't progressive enough).

You're right (I assume) about Schumer's casting. First of all: it's her movie. But beyond that, yeah, she is clearly outside of Hollywood beauty standards. I'm 100% on board with obesity not being cool and it should not be idealised or promoted, or even really normalised. I'm anti-fat shaming, but I cannot get on board with "fat acceptance" movement, either.

reply

True obesity should never be promoted, yes beauty Hollywood standards sometimes are crazy but it’s not okay to be obese.

Not for beauty but health issues, there is a thing about not being like top model thin or being perfect shape that’s okay, but real obesity shouldn’t be promoted.

But it’s not what this film is promoting and the film just tell us about you believing in your beauty and feeling pretty will make you look pretty because it makes you dress up, wear makeup and feel upbeat.

reply

It sounds like a great message for a movie to have and promote. Maybe I'll check it out some time.

reply

Nope, it doesn't have a great message. Amy Schumer is not particularly pretty. If she feels pretty, that's just wishful thinking, self-denial.

I'm not saying she shouldn't be self-confident. I'm saying be mindful, stay real. There's many elements that can make a woman attractive beyond being pretty: being funny (without being a bitch), being spirited, being sweet, just to name a couple. There's more than a way to skin a cat.

Don't fool yourself. Know yourself. Know your cards and play your best.

Of course, lack of self-confidence is a serious problem. But the message shouldn't be to have blind self-confidence, which is just a temporal patch. Instead of that, have mindful self-confidence.

i think you project how you feel and her feeling made everyone think she was pretty. It’s good she thought she had a great body that way she felt in the mood to dress up, do her makeup and Walk differently.

At the end they showed us it’s her confidence what it was all about. When they showed she always looked the same she went being confident and was able to do her job at the event.

If feel pretty you will project that image.

She's the consequence of messages like the one in this movie.

The movie, instead of teaching that are many other values that make a woman attractive and not only being pretty, it reinforces the obsession with physical beauty. Instead of mindfulness and self-knowledge, it promotes self-denial. That's what passes for a "positive message" in our times.

She's like a horse with blinkers. That kind of messages repeated again and again don't let them see nothing else but the obsession with prettiness.
