Ending ... well, what do you think ?

Did you see the movie? Where they alive? Where and why did the helicopter come back, or even did it?

reply

Yeah, I think they survived, but it’s just my opinion. I’m sure many others might see it differently. I just wanted them to survive after all they’ve been through.

The ending is probably the downfall of the film for most viewers but I loved it.

Yes, the helicopter came back. It's visible in the background, landing, for about a whole half second before the film ends. The fate of the survivors is ambiguous and what you think or feel about that says a lot about who you are. It's excellent in that fashion. It doesn't need an explanation just like the film doesn't need to explain how Mads ends up in his predicament. The journey is its own reward.

I don't need a movie as a kind of cinematic Rorschach test to tell me about myself. A movie is suppose to be art, Rorschach tests are not art or literature.

reply

LOL. I'm glad you're so well grounded.

Yes, and my opinion is that they're alive, but it's only an opinion. It's become increasingly common for directors to have ambiguous endings to their films. I used to like that, but now it's becoming somewhat annoying.

Mr. Director, please just tell us how the fucking movie ends!

They were both alive as the helicopter landed nearby and the movie ended. There is nothing to justify thinking that they died. People survive ordeals as bad and worse all the time.

They would have, if the guy didn't shake the last breath out of that poor woman when he thought the helicopter is gone.
