Roseanne doesn't sound as natural when saying her lines anymore

Back in the original run of the show everything she said felt natural and non rehearsed, i dunno what is but whenever she says a line now it just comes off as rehearsed and as if she reciting lines shes trying to remember. Their just isn't that authenticity in her voice whens saying them.

I dunno its not every line she says but she just isn't as good as she was, she sounds like shes definitely reading lines from a script here and there.

It has been a long time so i can cut her some slack, hopefully next season she'll have shaken all the rust off and she'll be better.

She has always had a lackluster delivery. It's one of the reasons the original show never enthused me at all...she appears/sounds as if she is giving the very most minimal effort for her craft.

I think her age and being out of practice are contributing factors, but I also think - and this is symptomatic of many modern sitcoms - there are too many "pre-written jokes" in the show. It's like the writers go in with jokes and write a script around them rather than coming up with funny scenarios and finding the jokes within them. The whole (and I'm paraphrasing) "you have an uncle who wasn't even born all the way... his legs just grew long enough to touch the ground" joke. It totally sounds like some rejected stand-up joke that's been swirling around in one of the writer's heads for years and they finally had a chance to use it by writing a scene around it for Roseanne. You know what I mean? And the whole talking to the dog and telling it she wasn't going to give any more money to their organization and to stop with the sad commercials because they're ruining her snacks. Same kind of thing. Her delivery in regular, non-jokey, just funny dialogue is a little better.

I only caught the first two episodes but I felt the same way about the actress playing Becky. Something about her delivery didn't sound natural.

I think I noticed most in the first episode that they don't sound as natural. My opinion is that the lines don't have as much sarcasm and grit is because it seems like the characters don't seem as miserable like in the original series. The character of Roseanne in the new show while still humorous does not seem as angry or as unhappy. While Darlene and the grand kids moved back in there is not that parental stress in the old show. Yes there was the whole episode of Roseanne shoving Harris head under the water but I dont think that will be a regular plot. Darlene while still funny is also not as angry as in the original series.
