just saw it again for the first time since opening friday, 2019...still not that great

Get Out was one of the best films of 2017, and it has aged liked fine wine. I saw Nope on Friday and liked it alot. I decided to give US another chance, since it really disappointed me when I saw it in theaters, hoping I'd come around. well it's still not that great. Obviously, Us is very really well made, directed, shot, and especially acted. Plenty of scenes are legitimately suspenseful and gripping. The issue is that the script is not very well realized. There's no clear point to the film, it doesn't follow its own rules and logic (some clones are the same, while some are total opposites), and the big reveal reveals absolutely nothing. Also, the comedy is usually really bad and interjected in inappropriate moments. When the film ends, it's like "...okay? and? what's that all about?"

jordan peele said he wrote hundreds of drafts of Get Out, which is why it's so tight and concise. Us is clearly a one-draft movie.

Get Out - 10/10
Us - 5/10
Nope - 8/10

It's always worth revisiting films. Many times my opinion has changed for the better. Sometimes for the worse.

I've only seen Us once and I didn't care for it at all. It was a step down from Get Out, which I'm also not that big a fan of.

I thought Get Out was an overrated, okay film. I thought Us was absolutely brilliant. It's just a bit less straightforward of a story. The movie has a point, and I think it's well done in the film. I didn't mind the comedic interjections either, and I usually hate that shit. Usually, I don't like to say this, but I think a lot of people simply didn't like the movie because it didn't make sense to them. It's really not unlike people who walked away from mother! in confusion.

Get Out - 6.5/10
Us - 9/10
Nope - ?

It's not great at all and is average at best. Get Out and Nope were pretty good and much better than this.
